Moonlight Social Wins 2015 Songdoor International Songwriting Contest
“RUB A LITTLE DIRT ON IT” NAMED BEST COUNTRY SONG
Austin, TX – Moonlight Social is excited to announce its new single “Rub A Little Dirt On It” was named the best country song in the SongDoor 2015 International Songwriting Competition. Written in Nashville by the duo’s Jeremy Burchard (ASCAP) and Jennica Scott (ASCAP), along with fellow Texan Jo-Leah Tilbury (ASCAP), the winning tune was recorded at Ragtop Recording studios in Nashville and co-produced by Burchard and Kelly Schoenfeld (Colin Raye). As the category prize winner, the duo received a SongDoor Certificate of Excellence and a prize package valued at $1,080.95 consisting of of memberships to SongU and Broadjam Primo as well as a guitar or piano/vocal demo
produced/engineered by Steve Avedis.
Originally based out of Austin, Burchard and Scott began traveling to Nashville with regularity in 2015 to co-write and take advantage of songwriting communities such as Nashville Songwriters Association International and the feedback provided by ASCAP’s Ralph Murphy, who first encouraged the duo to pitch the song after hearing it at a weekly Song Source.
An every-man song inspired by the old saying it takes its name from, “Rub A Little Dirt On It” was written from a place when the duo remembers wishing they had been given the same advice. Not meant to downplay struggles, this musical motivation acknowledges troubles and emboldens moving on with a wink and a smile.
“What a great song; the judges loved it,” said SongDoor’s LeAnn Zotta.
SongDoor judge and hit country writer Bill Shore (Garth Brooks, George Strait) praised the “great feel” of the song and particularly loved the bridge.
Burchard and Scott, who met while participating in the University of Texas Longhorn Band, formed Moonlight Social in early 2011. The result of boundless motivation and countless influences, Scott‘s soaring vocals and harmonious country sensibilities, married with Burchard‘s eclectic guitar style and rich voice, create the signature sound of Moonlight Social – inventive yet familiar, spontaneous yet calculated, varied yet grounded.
As Moonlight Social‘s popularity grows beyond their Austin roots, they have received many opportunities that have put them in front of fans and industry alike. Named one of the Best New Bands in Austin in 2013, Moonlight Social was featured on the TV show, “Welcome To Indie Country.” In 2014, they graced the stage of the sold-out Country USA Festival in Wisconsin, represented Texas at Indie Week Canada 2014, placed among the Top 4 (out of 25 finalists) in The Recording Conservatory of Austin’s “Unsigned Artist Competition 2014,” and appeared as part of the Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards during The Ram Truck Round-Up as part of the ACM Party for a Cause Festival. They have toured Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Michigan, Wisconsin, Canada and more sharing the stage with Eli Young Band, Florida Georgia Line, Jack Ingram, Hayes Carll, Thomas Rhett, The Dirty River Boys, Two Tons of Steel, and others.
