Houston, TX — Matt Brouwer’s latest album, “B-Sides Recording Vol. 1” has been nominated for the “Best Worship Album of the Year” Covenant Award at the Annual GMA Canada 2007 conference in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Matt is one of the feature artists along with Steve Bell, Downhere, and Jon Bauer at the Worship Night Concert to kick off GMA Canada 2007 held at Bow Valley Christian Church.
Brouwer’s self-produced collection of worship songs was released in late 2006 mainly to sell at concerts and from his website. The album has had surprising response from both his fanbase and the industry. Due to major market radio airplay of “Father I Adore You”, the record was picked up by TAG Artist Group for distribution in the United States and CMC Distribution for Canada. “B-Sides” was a featured “LifeWay Recommends” album in early 2007 which garnered the inclusion of “Surrender” in LifeWay Christian Resources upcoming Young Adult Bible Study/Leader Kit, Tough Sayings of Jesus, Vol. 2.
“When an artist spends a great deal of time writing and recording songs there are inevitably some that get left behind for one reason or another and never make it on to a project. Usually a song is thrown out for very good reasons, but sometimes a song gets lost and then found again.” Said Matt, “One day I started going through some college recordings, live tracks, and demos and found some songs I had forgotten about that served as a reminder of the innocence and love that was shared while making music in college. In the hopes of providing them with a home the idea for a “B-sides” record was born.”
Spanning the 6 years that Matt has been a recording artist, these songs represent a specific spiritual focus that grew out of his experiences while making music in college and the years since. Some of these recordings date back as far as 1999 before his maiden voyage to Nashville while he was in a college band in Canada. Brouwer took those recordings along with five new recordings and created the first of a series of “B-Sides”.
“B-Sides” is the first album released by Brouwer under his newly established Black Shoe Records label which is administrated by Indie Extreme. Black Shoe Records is the first label signed by Indie Extreme to a label management deal. Indie Extreme provides Black Shoe Records label admin services including marketing support, distribution, administration, e-commerce, bookkeeping and inventory management on a monthly subscription basis along with various ala carte services on an as needed basis.
Matt has recently left his position at The Woodlands United Methodist Church in the Houston area and moved to the Los Angeles, CA. Stepping into the world of a full time recording artist, Brouwer has begun working on several new projects including “A Merry Little Christmas”, a 4 song EP packaged as a Christmas card/gift item available at his concerts and website, and his new studio album that will release in the Spring of 2008.
